During a thrilling one hour finale earlier this week, Kara Laricks, was named winner of NBC’s exciting, new reality competition “Fashion Star.”  Throughout the season, 14 talented designers competed in a series of challenges and eliminations, vying for the ultimate prize to sell one unique collection in each of three of the country’s largest retail stores, including America’s Department Store, Macy’s.  Laricks exclusive collection for Macy’s highlights her avant-garde aesthetic and unique approach to traditional women’s fashion, and is available at 110 Macy’s stores across the country and on macys.com for a limited time beginning yesterday.

Tuxedo Fashion Tips from Vera Wang

Below is some good advise that I have received from Vera Wang.  I thought I would share it with you.

On your big day, you’ll undoubtedly want your groom looking as dapper as ever. Whether he’s a modern guy or keeps it classic, you can never go wrong with designer quality. At Men’s Wearhouse, you’ll not only find the new, exclusive BLACK by Vera Wang rental tuxedo collection, but you’ll find the perfect look for your man so he looks as elegant and feels as confident as you do.

Consider your groom’s tux style the perfect balance between your wedding’s theme and his fashion sense. To find that sweet spot, get wrapped up in the tux details—from vests and ties to fits and finishing touches—and decide together what’s best.

Here is a little advice to keep in your (or his) back pocket when picking out his wedding-day look:

The coat will set the tone for the entire ensemble. One- and two-button styles are the most popular and will look good on nearly all physiques. If you’re going for a classic look, choose a coat with a peak lapel. Going modern? Choose a notch lapel.

Fit Tip: The shoulder fit is crucial for a clean look. Fortunately, Men’s Wearhouse Formalwear Consultants will make sure his coat fits just right!

Flat-front pants are on-trend. Go with a satin stripe for a traditional look or a grosgrain stripe for a more contemporary take.

Fit Tip: Most men look best with a modest break atop the shoe.

Style Tip: Coordinate the groom’s vest and tie color with the bride’s gown and the groomsmen’s vest and tie color with the bridesmaid dresses.

Finishing touches will polish his look. So, don’t forget the accessories. We’re talking shoes (classic, black patent), studs, cuff links, and a perfectly folded pocket silk.

Today I learned of a feature on Pinterest.  Sure, it has been around for a long time I assume, but finally “I” have noticed it…  Essentially, their is an easy way to “embed” fashion photos to any fashion blog.  Go to your favorite fashion on Pinterest section and then find the photo that you enjoy.  To the right of the image, their is a link for embed.  From there you can grab the code.  Below is an example.

Advice from Vera Wang about Bridal Gloves

Here is a bit of advice from Vera Wang about bridal gloves.

“Got great arms? If so, add long gloves to your strapless gown. While gloves make a strong visual impact, they are not for every bride.

Nothing detracts more from a splendid wedding gown than the wrong accessory. But done right, gloves can be elegant and sophisticated. As a rule, the earlier in the day the service is, the shorter the glove should be. Long gloves, which necessitate well-toned arms, look sensual next to bare skin and the proportions create the illusion of height.”

ellemayers.com Now Selling 38 Inch Inseam Pants

ellemayers.com is a specialty online retailer selling workout clothes to tall, active women. The company is owned by 5’10” Liz Mayers who found it difficult to find activewear designed specifically for tall women and decided to start her own company. The company began selling the “living it up tall” pant with a 38” inseam last week.

“When I launched last fall I started with two inseam lengths of the living it up tall pant. 34″ and 36″. I quickly started receiving requests for 38″ pants,” said Mayers. “I’m excited to meet the needs of tall women who continue to be challenged when it comes to finding clothing that fits.”

According to Mayers there’s been a very positive response to the clothing line and specifically to the pants. “My customers love the fit and find them super comfortable. And they’re made in the USA. Something many customers are looking for now,” she said.

Mayers looks forward to expanding the line this year with more tops and pants.
