Vera Wang Shape of Skirt 2012

Here are a few comments from Vera Wang:

“The shape of the skirt is what determines the look and movement of your wedding
dress. There are a few key shapes to choose from: Make a grand impression with a
full, gathered skirt or elongate your silhouette with a classic A-line. If you
are tall and thin, a circular skirt can be incredibly graceful particularly in a
chiffon fabric. If you are curvy, a mermaid shape is extremely flattering but
may need a cover-up during more conservative moments such as the ceremony.
Finally, I highly recommend a narrow column for a skirt shape that is a
sophisticated alternative to a full gown. A floor-length sheath is a nod to
eveningwear and is considered quite avant-garde for a wedding dress.”

Fashion Designers Expo Coming October 2012

Fashion Designers Expo (FDE) is back with an exciting line up of runway shows and events set for October 18th – 20th. FDE is among the largest expositions of emerging fashion talent. Major press, celebrities, socialites and thousands of guests have attended FDE to see “Who’s NEXT in Fashion?” This organization scouts for the best up and coming models, designers, make up artists, stylists, hair stylists, etc. and puts them all together in an amazing Fashion Week filled with glamour and entertainment.

With a fabulous City Style Collective Pop-Up Shop during the pre-show hour and designers traveling from India and London this season, FDE is sure to bring the best of the best in the emerging fashion industry! This season FDE is presented by and benefitting B.i.o.n.i.c. Girls, Inc.

“It’s more than just another Fashion Week; it’s giving the emerging industry a secure platform to bring their dreams to reality while using the power and glamour of the runway in support of non profit organizations to impact our world,” says CEO and Co-Founder of FDE, Karine Melissa. In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fashion Designers Expo is presented by and benefitting B.i.o.n.i.c. Girls, Inc. to bring awareness, empower, and fund-raise for the cause.

The mission of B.i.o.n.i.c. Girls (BG) is to empower and transform the lives of young breast cancer survivors who have undergone cancer treatment and mastectomy. BG focuses on rebuilding self-image and self-esteem while creating opportunities for wellness. The goal of BG is to promote public awareness and early breast cancer detection especially in women 45 and under as this population of women is increasingly becoming diagnosed. BG offers free services that will allow patients to focus more on healing and less on life’s stresses.

Founder of B.i.o.n.i.c. Girls, Andrea Nugent, says, “I am truly passionate about this cause because I feel no one should go through this fight alone. I was fortunate enough to have my family and friends there for support, love and prayers. They came, they cooked, they cleaned, they drove me to treatment and they took turns taking care of my son. During treatment I met so many women who told me they were alone, either divorced, divorcing or had family in other states. This was my inspiration. I am not just some Founder or CEO, I am someone whom God has truly blessed to be able to say I have been there, I have overcome and now I am in a position to offer. love, support and compassion to others who are facing the same journey.”

Mau Conceptual Clothing

mau is a collection of contemporary street wear made out of the ubiquitous modern material tyvek. Wardrobe staples and accessories are simply built: with all detail emerging from construction decisions. The material is a high performance non woven taken from construction, graphics, and stationary trades and adapted and manipulated here for personal use. This is not the same tyvek of souvenir jackets and bike race pinnies. Along with excellent performance properties, this material looks deceptively fragile and perishable like paper but is in fact a tough and resistant modern material. Each garment comes in a little bag and weighs less than half pound. The work is designed in an old textile factory building in the Hudson Valley and sewn either locally or in the NYC Garment District under the auspices of the Garment Industry Development Corporation, City of New York. The material is made in the USA of 25% recycled material, surplus materials are gathered from local exchanges and design studio scraps are recycled. mau also has a recycling program.– believing in no boundaries
– bearing no baggage
– itineraries of flux and drift
– charted in the use and reuse of materials
– messages scrawled on the sleeve of a jacket

What is your opinion of Mau conceptual clothing?  If you like it, you can shop mau now at their website.

Disney Villain and Threadless Contest

For every favorite Disney hero, there’s a villain who stands in their way.  A true Disney Villain is more conniving than any ugly stepsister, and they’ll stop at nothing to wreak evil on all that is good.  But for what they lack in goodness, these characters make up for in personality.  The shorter their tempers and the more vengeful their schemes, the more we love to hate them!  And to celebrate that love/hate relationship, Threadless, the international community-based design company, and Disney have partnered once again to challenge Threadless’ 2.2 million community members and Disney fanatics alike to create a t-shirt design inspired by Disney Villains.

Artists were asked to create a design with one or several of their favorite Disney Villains from the following list:

· The Evil Queen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

· Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty

· Ursula, The Little Mermaid

· Cruella De Vil, 101 Dalmatians

· Dr. Facilier, The Princess and the Frog

· Jafar, Aladdin

· The Queen of Hearts, Alice In Wonderland

· Captain Hook, Peter Pan

The number one chosen designer of the design HOOK received $5,000 (all other chosen designers received $2,500), a variety of Disney Villain collectable figurines and Disney Villains wall art and a sketch framed next to the chosen design, created by one of the Disney character artists (valued at $500 or more).  The chosen designs are now available in both adult sizes and kids sizes here for $23.50.
