Upcloud Measures Your Dimensions For Clothing

Upcloud uses your computer’s webcam to evaluate your body in order to estimate your measurements, then recommend clothing that will fit you. You calibrate the service by standing in front of a camera and holding a CD (the purpose of holding the CD is because it is a consistent shape). Then you can shop across any of the sites that have integrated UPcload. Each site must first give UPcload size information about each item. The clothing is matched against your fit profile.

UPcload measures individual dimensions in a few minutes via standard webcam. The system utilizes body dimensions such as arm length, chest circumference and many more. According to them, the measurement process works easily and is followed by reliable clothing size recommendations. UPcload aims to become the benchmark and protagonist in social shopping.

Stepcase Aggregates Fashion Photos

Stepcase, the Hong Kong based-startup behind the 7.5 million-strong photo community Step.ly, is launching a photo viewer tailored for Sina Weibo to provide users with consistent, intuitive and light-weight photo-viewing experience. According to Leon, founder of Stepcase, the idea of creating Chaopin stems from an experimental concept to create, design and develop an app in just two weeks to meet Chinese users’ needs of browsing Weibo pictures.

According to TechCrunch, “The application is designed to aggregate fashion photos and arranges the photos into popular and new streams. When the app is started, Chaopin collects fashion photos shared from Sina Weibo and renders the images into a photo collage so that users do not have to scroll through pages and pages of text, or through multitudes of accounts. Tapping on a photo brings it up in full screen where it is easy to flick through all the photos from page to page. Chaopin also allows people to create personalised collections and to store and arrange their favourite fashion and apparel photos into collections which they can browse or reference later when they are out shopping, or shopping online. It is also possible to get more information about the photo and interact with the photo creator by tapping the follow button or tapping on the photo creators name.  This Hong Kong-based startup also realized that viewing street fashion photos seemed quite popular among Weibo adopters even though the viewing experience isn’t that pleasant. That’s why they came up with the idea of curating an application that makes it a beautiful experience to browse street fashion photos posted or shared on Weibo. The app also allows you to discover and follow the people who are sharing these photos, rate the photos hot or not, see the hottest photos, and re-share them all on Sina Weibo.”

Fashion Forward with iPad

Anything regarding “Apple” is important and anything regarding “Fashion” is even more important.  Put them together and we obviously have some interesting news.  Here is some news I thought you might want to see about Benetton using the iPad. If you would like to discuss uses of the iPad for fashion companies, you are welcome to join in the discussions at that the Technology in Fashion Group at the Fashion Industry Network.

The following is from the Apple website. This was Apple Hot News from October 26, 2011.

Fashion forward with iPad.

Benetton is internationally known for its lively fashions and memorable ad campaigns. From the company’s headquarters near Venice to the farthest reaches of the fashionable world, Benetton requires reliable, easy-to-use mobile technology that transcends all boundaries of culture and geography. So naturally, they chose iPad.

With a network of 6,000 stores in 120 countries, the Benetton Group — which includes the casual United Colors of Benetton line, the high-style Sisley label, and leisurewear brand Playlife — produces 160 million garments every year. With this amount of production in the works, this fashion giant relies on iPad to better communicate and stay connected.

“When iPad came out, the company was quick to see the device’s potential, and decided to adopt it immediately,” says Aldo Chiaradia, Benetton’s Chief Information Technology Officer. “The ease of use, the attention to detail — these are things you don’t see in other devices. Today, our entire sales force and all of our C-level executives and managers use iPad.”

iPad makes it simple for Benetton employees to stay connected regardless of their location. “They have Mail, Calendar, Contacts,” says Sylvia Re, IT Service Manager. “They have all the documents and information they need traveling around the world. And the information flows in an encrypted and secure way.”

Transforming Sales

For Benetton’s sales team, iPad changes everything. Before iPad, the company distributed printed catalogs to its sales staff four times per year, 15 days before the launch of each collection. Besides being bulky, expensive, and time-consuming to produce, the hardcopy catalogs couldn’t be altered to reflect last-minute design revisions or changes in inventory. And since the printed images couldn’t show all the details, Benetton representatives also carried samples of each garment — about 15 pounds (6.8 kilos) of clothing — on sales calls.

Now, Benetton creates a custom iPad catalog app that gives sales staff a lightweight, lightning-fast visual interface and streamlines the entire sales process. Salespeople can quickly navigate through the collections and zoom in on garments for a more detailed view. Products are displayed with complete color accuracy on iPad, and the catalog content can be updated in seconds to reflect changes. As a result, the company saves 60 days per year in preparing its sales materials and is able to adapt instantly to changes.

“With the video resolution and calibrated colors on iPad, we can instantly display things that used to be much harder to show,” Chiaradia explains. “People can see and share details of our collection at a speed that would have been unthinkable before.”

Another in-house app that Benetton designed for retailers illustrates how the company’s clothing can best be placed in stores. “It shows ways to display the collection, and lets you navigate through in 3D,” says Re.

In addition to providing valuable business resources on the go, Benetton’s iPad apps keep proprietary information secure. “On iPad we have encryption, security, and authentication,” says Re. “The applications won’t work if the user is not authenticated.” Users can easily download and update apps via an in-house app center, she notes: “They can see the versions right in the iPad browser, and just click an icon to download an app.”

The Apple iOS SDK includes all the essential resources for easy in-house app development. “We found that it’s very easy to write apps and integrate them into our other systems,” Chiaradia says.

True Colors on iPad

Color means the world to Benetton — it’s a key component of the company’s five-decade international success, a language everyone understands. And with iPad, the company can show its truest, most vivid colors to colleagues and customers around the globe, whether it’s corporate communications, images of the latest designs, or retail display materials.

“iPad is a driver for the company to modernize and still maintain its fundamental values,” Chiaradia says. “Basically it’s a device that allows Benetton to grow.”

“We used to think of iPad as a device from the future,” Re adds, “but now we practically can’t do without it! Our salespeople, our executives — they’d be kind of lost without iPad.”

Horseworship Apparel To Benefit Wild Horses in America

We offen post fashion blog posts and it is nice to post one that is regarding designers trying to help a cause.  This fashion blog post is regarding a company helping wild horses.

Horseworship, an independently owned apparel company based in Malibu, California, joined the growing chorus of individuals and businesses working to stop the eradication of America’s rapidly diminishing wild horse population with the announcement of its “Freedom Collection” line.  A portion of the profits from sales of the line will support the California-based Return To Freedom, American Wild Horse Sanctuary.   With the unveiling of her “Freedom Collection” line, Horseworship founder and designer Pamela Robins has created a series of short and long sleeve tee shirts, delicious thermals and warm hoodies ($48-$82) for young girls and women.  The collection merges the dynamic graphics and verse of Robins with the fine art photography of equine photographer Kimerlee Curyl.

An avid equestrian and daily rider, Robins’ inspiration for the project began with seeing Kimerlee Curyl’s photos of wild horses at a gallery show.  Comments Robins: “I was taken by the majesty and independence of the incredible animals in Kimerlee’s photos.  She has a romantic eye that allows her to capture both the subtle and dynamic interactions between the horses in a way that really spoke to me: I wanted to learn more.”  Robins learned from Curyl that the subjects in her images were photographed in their natural environment at Return to Freedom, a non-profit wild horse sanctuary in Lompoc, California.  In subsequent conversations, Robins learned that America’s wild horse population—once numbering nearly two million—has been reduced to less than thirty thousand, with more than thirty-eight thousand more horses stockpiled in holding facilities and long term holding ranches at a cost to taxpayers of nearly $50 million annually.

Founded in 1997 by Neda DeMayo, Return to Freedom is the realization of her life-long dream: to protect the freedom and natural lifestyle of America’s free ranging wild horses.  On the Return to Freedom’s collaboration with Horseworship, DeMayo says, “Horses have inspired artists in all mediums for thousands of years, in a very generous gesture, Pamela Robins is sharing her appreciation and inspiration with the public to benefit the horses.”

Kimerlee Curyl commented on the Freedom Collection project saying, “Pamela’s creative spirit and sensitivity to horses, as well as her willingness and dedication to participate in raising awareness for Return to Freedom can be seen and felt throughout the collection.   The beauty she has created is exciting, fresh and fashionable…art has a voice!”

Visit http://www.Horseworship.com for more details on the collection

Although clothing does not go on wild horses, you may own a horse.  If you are the loving owner of a horse, you may wish to check out the horse clothing on Apparel Search.
