Project Accessory

eBay’s is involved with a new TV show called Project Accessory (sister show to Project Runway) hosted by Molly Sims. The winner of the show will receive $100,000K from eBay Fashion to start their own line.

There will be an eBay Fashion Styling Wall in each episode. Contestants can supplement their designs by choosing products from the curated wall filled with brand new merchandise, all sourced on eBay Fashion. Limited Edition Earthkeepers Boots to Benefit WaterAid

Today, leading outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland announced “Canvas that Cares,” a new program created to raise funds for non-profit organizations through the auction of custom-designed, limited edition Earthkeepers® footwear – Timberland’s most eco-minded collection.  Rock and roll icon and artist Ringo Starr is helping to drum up support for the initiative by lending his original peace sign artwork to the inaugural boot collection.  Proceeds from the auction, which kicks off December 1 on eBay (hub: www.timberland.com/canvasthatcares), will benefit WaterAid, a non-profit dedicated to improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.

Cyber Monday Deals Are Better

Does cyber Monday or black Friday have better deals?  Wow, that is a great question that you have just asked.  Unfortunately, I do not know the actual (correct) answer.  However, as always, it would be my pleasure to speculate. 
In my opinion, Cyber Monday should have better deals then black Friday.  Did you just ask, “Why?”.  Well, I am glad that you have asked.  In my opinion, fashion retailers can offer better deals on Monday because they have sales numbers in house already from the previous Friday.  If they realize that they did not sell as much inventory as they would have liked to on Friday, maybe they can reduce prices for their Monday sales promotions. 
However, that is actually easier said then done.  It is not really that simple for a clothing company to change product pricing over the weekend.  They would have to be either a very small company (such as a fashion boutique) or an extremely efficient company.  Furthermore, this obviously only works for companies that are strictly online retailers only. 
If the clothing store is both brick & mortar AND an online retailer the prices of garments in the store would have to match what is sold online (not really sure if that is a legal requirement or just an organizational necessity).  It would be extremely difficult to update the garment selling pricing on the fly for a brick & mortar store.  My guess is that technology will eventually catch up and create an answer to this issue.  Possibly, their will soon be a method for retailers to electronically update “price tickets” or “price stickers” that are already hanging on garments.  If that is the case, they can update online sale prices and in store prices at the flip of a switch.  Wouldn’t that be amazing…  Anyway, for now, I think online retailer can more quickly adjust to sales data and update pricing and sale strategies more quickly then brick & mortar retailers.
Anyway, back to my original point.  I think that online retailers have the potential to provide consumers with better deals on Cyber Monday then they do on Black Friday.  They can do so because they know what inventory sold over the weekend and how urgently they need to unload additional units so that they are not stuck with inventory after the selling season completes.

Cyber Monday Clothing Sales

Which is more important?  Cyber Monday or Black Friday.  Well, I guess this will depend on who you ask.  If you ask an “online” clothing store, I assume that the answer will be that Cyber Monday is more important.  If you have not been paying attention to the world around you, I will give a brief explanation now regarding the difference between Cyber Monday clothing sales and black Friday clothing sales. 
  • Cyber Monday is the Monday immediately following Black Friday.
  • Black Friday is the Friday that is immediately following Thanksgiving.
Wasn’t that simple?  It is important to note that Black Friday is associated with traditional brick-and-mortar stores, but “Cyber Monday” symbolizes a busy day for online retailers.

Black Friday Fashion

Welcome to our “Fabulous Black Friday Fashion” blog post.  If you have not already guessed, this fashion blog post is about sale events that take place on Black Friday.  This year, this wonderful sale day falls on November 25th.  If you take a look on the calendar, you will see that we are getting extremely close to this date.  Therefore, it may be time to begin investigating the numerous sales event opportunities.  Obviously, we have little interest in any old circular.  Our goal is to only find black Friday fashion relevant events.  This week Apparel Search has launched a new website to help make it a little easier to find clothing sales for the holidays.  The new site can be found at BlackFridayFashionSales.com and will help you learn more about Black Friday fashion.  If you have interest, and a few spare moments, check out the new site.

Liz Claiborne, Inc Completes Sale of Liz Claiborne and Monet Brands

Liz Claiborne, Inc. (NYSE: LIZ) yesterday announced that it has completed the transaction to sell domestic and international trademark rights of its Liz Claiborne family of brands and domestic trademark rights of its Monet brand to J. C. Penney Company, Inc. Total cash proceeds of $288 million include an advance of $20 million in exchange for the Company’s agreement to develop exclusive brands for J. C. Penney.

Mr. William McComb, Chief Executive Officer of Liz Claiborne, Inc., said: “We are very proud of the value we have unlocked from our Partnered Brands group. What remains of that segment is a private brand jewelry design and development group that will continue to serve J. C. Penney, via our exclusive license for the Liz Claiborne and Monet brand jewelry lines. It will also continue to market Trifari and Marvella, as well as serve Kohl’s with a license for Dana Buchman jewelry. Our jewelry capability is a profitable niche that was worth retaining, and will add to our earnings profile.”

Mr. McComb continued: “With this announcement, the company has completed the last in a series of five transactions that in total have raised $471 million, allowing the company to meaningfully de-leverage and transform its balance sheet–while creating a portfolio focused on growth.”

Mr. McComb concluded: “We have eliminated significant operating and financial risk and complexity. As we generate our strongest cash flow in the November/December time period, we are reaffirming our expected year-end 2011 net debt to be between $270 and $290 million. We are now focused on our three global lifestyle brands — Juicy Couture, kate spade and Lucky Brand–and seeing the high growth and high margin opportunities they offer come to fruition as well.”

I guess we now no how Liz Claiborne Inc. is doing financially.
