Spring 2012 Bridal Trends from Vera Wang
Below you will find suggestions directly from the Vera Wang company.
Spring 2012 Bridal Trends from the White by Vera Wang Collection
From feminine, floral prints to chic, shortened hemlines, look to White by Vera Wang for the season’s best bridal trends. Spring 2012 celebrates the one-year anniversary of the collection with the introduction of nine new wedding dress styles, priced $500-$1,500, exclusively at David’s Bridal. In addition to bridal gowns, the collection includes bridesmaid dresses, shoes and accessories.
Staying true to Vera Wang’s modern approach to bridal design, each gown masterfully captures a bride’s true femininity, sophistication and elegance. Key trends in the White by Vera Wang Spring 2012 collection include:
The Shape of Things
Silhouettes feature updated mermaid and A-lines, sweetheart, strapless, one-shoulder and asymmetrical necklines. Vera Wang is “thrilled to be able to provide an array of romantic, classic and whimsical dresses and accessories for the bride and the entire bridal party.”
It’s All in the Details
Delicate origami draping, intricate Chantilly lace appliqués and asymmetrical organza petal embellishments are whimsical details that infuse a chic, modern style into every bridal look. The perfect embodiment of a traditional dress with contemporary elements, style VW351105 is an elegant satin-faced organza and horsehair gown with an origami-draped bodice featured on this month’s cover of BRIDES magazine.
Flower Power
“This season, I’ve taken inspiration from the delicate form of flowers and their feminine appeal to create the White by Vera Wang Spring 2012 collection,” said Vera Wang. The trend is translated in a variety of ways, such as organza petals and blossoms, petal embroidery and floral corsages. For the bride who wants to make a bold statement, floral prints are an ideal option and also a major trend for the spring season.
Great Lengths
Long skirts are no longer the only option for gowns this season. As more brides seek a stylish yet nontraditional look on their special day, shorter hemlines are a reemerging trend for spring. A charming alternative is style VW351113, a satin-faced organza short dress featuring lace appliqués, tulle overlay and a sweetheart neckline.

Words from Vera Wang February 2012
“Nothing speaks more to convention in the design of a wedding gown than structure. Certain fabrics have become synonymous with this type of gown, providing form yet still able to be manipulated with precision to the desired design.
Duchess satin and satin-polyester blends are the most well-known of structured fabrics and are ideal for A-lines, full or gathered skirts, mermaid shapes or a structured bustier. Some of my brides seek more volume, so I recommend they choose taffeta (which looks lavish in off-white) or organza.
One of my favorite fabrics for structured looks is tulle, which is no longer relegated to the underpinnings of a gown. Tulle is charming and beautiful, expressing a sense of youth and femininity; it is not ideal, however, for dancing or moving about.” -XO, Vera

People often say that imitation is a form of flattery. If that is the case, I wonder if Birchbox is feeling flattered this morning. Or possibly, they are feeling a bit more on uncomfortable (disappointed) then flattered.
Into todays fashion and beauty industry news, we see not one but TWO news reports of competition popping up.

Wow, that sure sounds familiar. After reading that news report, we can go onto see that Beauty Bar, is collaborating with The Beauty Expert, Allure magazine, to introduce Sample Society which they call “a breakthrough in beauty sampling”. A members-only subscription service, Sample Society delivers the most exclusive samples of hair-care, makeup, skin-care and fragrance products plus expert information each month.

Weekly Top Ten Footwear Trend : Footsmart Jan 2012
Here is some info if you are interested in tracking footwear trends. This is the top ten list from Footsmart.
A Few Words From Vera January 2012
A bit of superstition adds to the adventure of marriage. For your something old, something new or something borrowed – look to your handbag. Your handbag should never be an afterthought; in fact, it is one of the most difficult accessories to coordinate with your wedding gown. Without exception, your wedding handbag should be small, elegant and understated. To make an important connection between past and future, consider a vintage handbag from one of your older relatives or invest in a new piece that will become an heirloom when you pass it on.
For your something blue, consider a hidden touch such as a blue ribbon sewn into your petticoat or a blue garter for your wedding leg. -XO, Vera

Are We Nearing The End of Cheap China
Shaun Rein is the founder and managing director of the China Market Research Group. He is also author of a book, The End of Cheap China : Economic and Cultural Trends That Will Disrupt the World. The book will be published in the spring
According to Mr. Rein, the year 2012 is shaping up to be a difficult one for America-China relations, as both nations jockey for greater influence in the Asia Pacific region. President Obama has announced he will send 2,500 marines to rotate through Darwin, Australia, and has chastised China for not “playing by the rules.” Many in China view Obama’s moves as a containment strategy and have stepped up their rhetoric calling for an end to American hegemony.
Mr. Rein states in an article, “In one chapter I analyze China’s currency and show that China’s manufacturing beats America’s because of superior infrastructure and efficient labor pools, not because of a manipulated currency, as Krugman argues. I point out that China is no longer a cheap place to do business. Not only did its currency appreciate by 8% in the last year, but 21 of China’s 31 provinces increased their minimum wage this year by 22%. Office space is more expensive in Shanghai than in many Western capitals.”

Tools for Improving Google+ Effectiveness
When using new systems such as Google+, it may be a good idea to utilize various tools and services that are created by third parties. I am not saying it is always better, but maybe looking for additional tools can help in some situations.
Sometimes the main service provider (in this example Google) may need time to perfect a particular service (such as Google+). To put things in a nut shell, tech companies such as Google will typically develop a great project, launch the project, then continuously work to improve the product further. Let’s keep in mind it is really difficult (or impossible) to launch a product that is perfect and in need of zero improvement right from the beginning. Once the project is up and running, programmers will continue to make improvements to existing features and also develop new features. At the same time, community organizers and other people working within the company can receive feedback from users regarding the current service to determine what new features need to be created and what existing features need to be improved.
As the primary service provider works on their internal tools and services, third party companies may start development on their own services to work in conjunction with the primary service. Obviously, their are legal and ethical rules in regard to what third party companies should do. Although I do not know all of the specific rules and obligations, it is my understanding that Google is fine with other companies creating services that help users of their service. This is why they often provide API information for third parties.
In regard to Google+, in my opinion it is a great service that will get even better over time. Before the system is “perfect”, I will seek out other services and tools that I can use in conjunction with Google Plus. One such service that I enjoy using is called Plus Dragon. Plus Dragon is actually a work in progress with only a small section currently available to the public. The feature that I use is the search engine. It allows me to search for people, brands, and business pages in a rather convenient way.
If you enjoy Plus Dragon, you can also join the dragons circle on Google+.
Also, you can read a similar post about an example of how third party Google+ tools such as Plus Dragon may be helpful to users of Google+.

Trousseau is no longer practical
Below you will find new comments from Vera Wang. As you know, we are fans of Vera. Therefore, thought that you would also enjoy her comments.
The tradition of a trousseau is age-old, when a woman began sewing clothes at an early age in anticipation of her marriage. While the concept of a trousseau is no longer practical, the idea of shopping for your wedding night and honeymoon is still enduring and relevant. The implication is timeless: new clothes for a new life.
Depending on where your honeymoon is, you might be packing bikinis for the beach or evening dresses for a European escape. Combine fabrics – cashmere, cotton, silk and lace – to create versatility. For any trousseau and any destination, a few pieces are essential: a lightweight cotton robe, a cashmere twin set, a little black dress with high-heels and a neutral-toned pashmina shawl. I strongly recommend packing black leggings for comfort, ease and practicality – I live by them. -XO, Vera
